Hello. Thanks for checking out my website.
Kind of overwhelming, isn't it? Trying to choose a therapist that you think you can feel comfortable and work well with? There are a lot of us out there. Let me give you a little information about me that will, hopefully, make your decision easier.
I entered the therapy field at mid-life, after previous careers in banking and travel. At that point, I had experienced enough of life to know how helpful therapy can be, out of which grew a passion for helping others find solutions to their oftentimes painful life problems.
I attended Hazelden Graduate School for my Masters of Arts in Addiction Studies, graduating in 2005. After working with college students in recovery at the Augsburg College StepUP Program, I decided to broaden my areas of expertise and returned to graduate school at St. Mary's University of Minnesota for my Graduate Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy, completed in May of 2010. Since that time, I have been in private practice, seeing individuals, couples, and families for a variety of issues.
On a personal note, I have successfully launched two adult daughters, (although they will always be my babies!), and am thoroughly enjoying the roles of mother-in-law and grandmother. I have been married to my awesome husband, Grant, since 2006. After growing up in the Chicago area, I have been a proud Minnesotan since 1981 and wouldn't trade that status for the world, (although at the time of this writing, we are enduring one of the coldest winters in years!). I enjoy getting outside in all seasons and enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing in winter and hiking and running in the more temperate months.
Although during session we often work on really serious stuff, I find that, even in the most difficult circumstances lie pockets of joy. I encourage my clients to grab hold of those rare moments and savor them. You may be surprised at how finding the lighter aspects of a situation can change perspective.
So, I invite you to pick up the phone and call me or text me or shoot me an e-mail to schedule your first session. I'm waiting to meet you!
